Synopsis
Born january 4, 1909 in Coupvray France his parents were Monique and Simon Braille. Louis was brought up catholic. He was the youngest of his four siblings, when he was three he had an accident in his father's workshop, accidentally stabbing himself in his left eye with a tool called an awl. After the accident, his left eye got infected and soon after it spread to his remaining good eye, leaving him completely blind. At the age of ten louis got a scholarship to go to paris national institute for the blind. Here he met Charles Barbier who came up with a code for the army which uses 12 raised dots to represent different sounds this was not successful as it was to complex. Charles took it to the school and thought it might help but no one took interest. Apart from louis Braille. Through the next couple of years louis made the system much simpler from ages of 12-15. Later he unfortunately died at the age of 43 on January 6, 1852 of tuberculosis. He was buried in his home town of Coupvray.
Early Life
On the fourth of January 1809, in Coupvray France Monique Braille and Simon Rene Braille had their forth son. Monique and Simon named him Louis. Louis’s father made saddles for horses out of leather. His mother plotted around the house during the day doing chores and looking after louis. There family was not very wealthy, but also not poor.
When louis was three he had a major accident with one of his dad's tools called and awl. He had badly damaged one of his eyes. The wound got infected, so when he was five he was completely blind in both eyes.
Louis’s family wanted their son to be educated, although he had to learn through listening. So at ten years of age Braille got a scholarship at paris national institute for the blind.
At the institute Braille met a friend, his name was Charles Barbier. Barbier served in the army and then developed a code using 12 raised dot for different sounds. This system did not work because it was way too complex for the men to use. So barbier took this system to the school and thought it could make a difference but nobody took notice of it. Apart from braille.Years went by and braille was still trying to perfect barbier's system.
About brailes system
Braille is a complex writing system used by the blind or the visually impaired,the system's characters are tiny rectangular blocks these are called cells.All of the cells are raised a tiny part off the surface. Each group of cells represents a word like ⠃⠗⠈⠊⠇⠇⠑ means Braille.
Conclusion
Louis Braille had an amazing idea and he must have been very smart to make this system work. The system must have been very hard to get people to use, and put it in books. Braille was a very cool person and I think he was all about helping others.He once said braille is knowledge and knowledge is power.
